Structure of the IELTS listening section
First of all, the structure of the listening section is the same for the academic and general modules.
It takes 40 minutes and consists of four parts:
- The first part comes in the form of a conversation between two people, usually, someone tries to book a date or buy some items. In this part, you will hear one or two numbers and try to guess them, maybe a phone number, street number, or a year "1992, 2001, etc.".
- In the second part, there is a monologue from one person to a group of people trying to explain a map or speaking about something.
- The third part of the IELTS exam is a dialogue, usually between two students or between a student and tutor, and here also you can hear some numbers.
- The fourth part is a monologue in academic vocabulary, usually a professor speaking to his colleges about an academic topic as agriculture, fishing, or ancient civilization.
